#Connect2Lead Educator:
Emily Clare
Emily Clare embodies the ISTE Empowering Leader standard (ISTE, 2018), using her learning network to move her school forward in innovative ways. As a building principal, Emily has worked in rural and suburban districts. Her experiences and these connections allow her to capitalize on opportunities for her teachers that will have an impact in the classroom. As Emily explained,
Networking has been a game changer in my leadership practice. The most recent example involves connecting with another administrator on Twitter about an opportunity to attend a local universityâs research summit to connect researchers with practitioners. I would have never known about this event without my Twitter network, and having access to this event allowed me to provide my students with curriculum in artificial intelligence. While at the event, I met a representative from Ready AI (readyai.org). The next week, I connected with the company on Twitter as a follow-up and to learn more about what it offers to students in grades 7â12. After a brief discussion with the company via a live webinar, we planned a professional development opportunity at my school district for up to twenty teachers from school districts across two counties. This professional development will provide teachers with access to the curriculum in artificial intelligence, a cutting edge and critical topic of study for middle school students in the 21st century. Without my network, my students may have never been introduced to this topic while in junior or senior high school. (personal communication, 2018)
